You've always got to jump at the chance to hear Philip Glass (usually playing with the Philip Glass Ensemble) perform one of his iconic early works. This time, Glass will be playing the Bang on a Can Marathon this Sunday with a performance of Music in Similar Motion with the Bang on a Can All-Stars.
"Similar Motion" is a modest 15 minutes. What I wouldn't give for a performance of Music in Twelve Parts in New York. I was lucky enough to catch that one the last time it was done in NYC, the summer of 2002 as part of Lincoln Center's celebrating Philip Glass' 65th birthday.
I have a feeling that New York is going to erupt over the next 18 months with Glass activity:
To name a couple of the announced highlights:
-Koyaanisqatsi with Orchestra with the NY Philharmonic, Nov. 2 and 3
-Satyagraha at the Metropolitan Opera (Starting Nov.4)
-Symphony No.9 - US Premiere Carnegie Hall on Glass' 75th Birthday
-Partita for Solo Violin - US Premiere
-Einstein on the Beach - Brooklyn Academy of Music
