Recently, the Yahoo message board was alive with people's stories of meeting Philip Glass. This is a contest for whomever has the oldest Philip Glass story i.e.(attending a performance of Music in Changing Parts in 1973). The contest ends on August 7, to the winner goes an autographed copy of Philip Glass' études for piano.

I worked for Philip's father, Ben Glass, at his downtown Baltimore record store/radio repair shop and recall Philip coming down from NYC (he was attending Juilliard) to help in the store during the holiday shopping periods. I clearly remember a conversation Philip and I had in January 1960 because that was when John Coltrane's groundbreaking Lp Giant Steps was released. Philip and I had a long conversation about Coltrane after he overheard me recommend it to a customer. When he told me how he had listened to Coltrane many times in clubs, I became a Philip Glass fan and remain one to this day. Over the years I've had the opportunity to briefly talk to him - at a reception prior to an Ensemble concert in Atlanta in 1984 and at several post-concert Q&A sessions, the latest conducted by Leonard Slatkin following the premier of Philip's Seventh Symphony in D.C. in 2005.

ha! the first entry might be the best entry by far! Unless perhaps one of Glass siblings comes in and talks about the composer playing the piano in the house in his teens.
